Hugging this character: Fine, though don't expect anything more than awkward back patting from John unless he has a fairly close relationship with your character.
Kissing this character: He would really prefer if you didn't.
Flirting with this character: Go right ahead, though chances are he won't pick up on it.
Fighting with this character: A-ok, just realize that he will likely fight back.
Injuring this character (include limits and severity): Discuss it with me OOC'ly first but I should be fine with it.
Killing this character: See above.
Using telepathy/mind reading abilities on this character: Go ahead, though it would be cool if you'd talk it out with me ooc'ly so I know what to expect.
Warnings: I haven't quite worked out how his powers work yet since canon hasn't elaborated on certain aspects, but they'll have something to do with luck. So...there's not really anything here now but in the future, there might be. :|b
Fourth Walling:
Since Homestuck takes place during 2009 Earth, there are several pop culture/fandom/what have you references made. It's possible that John will know your character as a video game or movie character in his world if they're from a popular enough canon or a canon that perks his interest.
Canons John has an interest in/references/would know instantly: Saw, Silent Hill, Ghostbusters, Classic Nintendo (Legend of Zelda, Mario, etc) Clock Tower, Resident Evil, Lord of the Rings...and basically anything from a horror movie, especially the really shitty ones.
But bear in mind, since he's a thirteen year old boy who spends a great deal of time on the internet. So he's going to recognize things beyond the above specifics. Even if he's not particularly interested in comics, he at least knows who someone like Superman or Batman is. He's going to know what a Pokemon or a Transformer is just by virtue of being an American kid. Even beyond pop culture canons, he's going to know things like fairy tales. So even if he never saw Disney's Tangled, he'll know the story of Rapunzel.
ALL THAT BEING SAID, if you play from a canon that John will likely recognize, I'll check your permissions post before doing anything but if you want to comment here and let me know what you are and aren't okay with, that would be much appreciated. Though I can't have John not recognize your character, I can have him refrain from saying anything to them or to others. Or if there's just specific information about your character that you don't want him to mention (say for example, that Superman's secret identity is Clark Kent) I can have him refrain from mentioning it. Or I can just not tag your character at all if you would rather not deal with potential fourthwalling. Comment screening is on for this reason.
